Cruise ships cause profound and widespread harm, much more than most Northwest residents may realize. In just a single season, greenhouse gas emissions from cruises and the flights that bring passengers here account for one-third as much climate pollution as the entire city of Seattle produces in a year. This non-essential industry pollutes air and water, endangers public health, jeopardizes the climate, exploits onboard workers, and overwhelms destination communities.

Furthermore, environmental degradation in the age of climate chaos has disproportionate negative impacts on BIPOC communities, locally and globally.  It’s time for the Port of Seattle to live up to its stated equity and environmental goals and work towards a sustainable vision of a green economy with long-term benefits for people and the planet.

As you explore this site, you will learn more about the damage cruise tourism causes and how you can take action to protect the people and planet that we love.

Who We Are

We are volunteers—climate activists, scientists, students, business people, teachers, health workers, and concerned residents. We came together in 2019 to urge the cancellation of the Port of Seattle’s plans to build an additional, third cruise terminal at T46, opposite Pioneer Square. This project was canceled in 2021.

Since then, we have broadened our focus to address the multiple harms of cruise, in collaboration with cruise activists regionally, nationally, and internationally. We seek to build collaborative relationships with groups representing affected tribes, neighborhoods/cities, vulnerable populations, and workers/businesses impacted by cruise. We support strengthening the local economy and helping affected workers as we transition to a healthier, greener world.
