December 2 virtual press conference will call for a
Covid-inspired “rethink” of cruise tourism
Seattle— Community members will join the Wednesday, December 2 launch of the Global Cruise Activist Network (GCAN)’s “Rethink Cruise Tourism” campaign, aimed at sparking a public policy discussion about the future of the cruise industry and encouraging loyal cruise customers, investors, governments and port authorities to “Rethink Before Restarting” cruise ships.
WHO: Global Cruise Activist Network (GCAN), a group of activists from port communities worldwide — including Seattle Cruise Control — as well as those who represent the concerns of cruise victims and labor groups like cruise workers.
WHAT: A virtual press conference to launch the campaign.
WHEN: Wednesday, December 2, at 12:00 p.m. PST
WHERE: Zoom. Register in advance for this meeting:
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
A recording of the virtual press conference will be available afterwards.
WHY: For decades, the cruise industry has put the social fabric, economic integrity, public health, and living environment of host communities — as well as passengers, crew, coastal and marine ecosystems, and the climate — at risk. The pandemic has created an opportunity to “Rethink Cruise Tourism.”
This is the second global event of GCAN following the launch of the worldwide alliance on World Oceans Day..
