Seattle Cruise Control has organized for nearly 4 years, bringing attention to the harms of the cruise industry and how cruising represents a failure of the general public imagination and moral awareness to confront the increasingly alarming, accelerating climate emergency. Already this summer Canada is having a record breaking wildfire season, with huge plumes of smoke blanketing North America. What will it take for people and politicians to wake up and change how we live, respecting the delicate balance required for life to thrive on this beautiful planet? Please join our movement in whatever way you can, speaking out at Port Commission meetings, joining our mailing list and getting involved in actions. It takes all of us to turn this ship around!

New York Times headline, July 6, 2023 – Wake Up Call for Humans (and pledges alone can’t stop the #ClimateEmergency.)
wildfire smoke blankets North America every summer and fall now
Cruizing While the Skies are Burning – Seattle cruise ship headed out the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Alaska. The sad irony in this image is that the rapidly expanding cruise industry attracts people seeking temporary pleasure from a cruise. And yet the emissions from the cruise ship disproportionately accelerate climate warming, increasing the incidence of wildfires, which colors our evening skies with hues of pink, orange, and red. We are in the autumn of human existence on planet Earth unless we can rapidly decrease atmospheric emissions. Photo: Warren Wambsganss (copyright)
